Norfolk is the second largest city in Virginia after nearby Virginia Beach. It is also the cultural capital of the Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News area, thanks in part to museums such as the Chrysler Museum of Art, and the renowned Norfolk Naval Base calls the city home. This would be enough to convince many people to drop by for a visit, yet it only gets better. When summer rolls around, Norfolk Virginia becomes a wonderful beach vacation destination.
Norfolk Virginia has transformed itself in grand fashion in recent years. In fact, the local tourist board calls the city The New Norfolk, and there has certainly never been a better time to visit. Regardless of your interests or the makeup of your group, staying entertained on a Norfolk vacation shouldn't be difficult. At Ocean View Park, there are picnic tables, a bathhouse, and a gazebo. At the city beaches in Norfolk, swimming, paddleboating, jet skiing, kayaking, and sailing are among the activity options.
During a Norfolk vacation, venturing off to nearby destinations to see what their beaches have to offer is also a possibility. Just north in Hampton, the oft-uncrowded Buckroe Beach welcomes those who want to soak up some sun and maybe enjoy some water sports as well. Also close by is Virginia Beach and its miles of sandy stretches. The Virginia Beach beaches are the best in the entire state and truly offer something for every taste.
