Hampton

Hampton
Hampton Virginia was founded by the British way back in 1610. That makes this coastal city the oldest in the country in terms of continuously English-speaking settlements. It's not just a rich history that makes this such an interesting tourist destination, however. Just 30 miles away is Virginia Beach, and there are other beaches to choose from in the general area, so visitors can spend plenty of time with their feet in the sand.

Found on the southern coast of Virginia, Hampton offers proximity to scores of wonderful beaches. If you don't want to travel far from town to find some sand, Buckroe Beach is a great place to go. Found just a few minutes from downtown Hampton, this relatively unspoiled beach is rarely crowded, and parking is available if you need it. The sand meets the waters of the Chesapeake Bay at Buckroe Beach, and there are miles of it to enjoy. Popular activities include sailing and windsurfing, and there is a marina next to the beach if you need to tie up your boat. In the summer, lifeguards are on duty at Buckroe Beach, and various beach and water sports gear can be rented.

The miles of beaches in Virginia Beach are likely to beckon at some point during a Hampton escape, especially since there is something for everyone in terms of what these beaches have to offer. You can find busy stretches of sand that are backed by hotel and restaurants in Virginia Beach and more natural beaches such as those at False Cape State Park.

There are numerous places to stay on or near Hampton's Buckroe Beach, with summer being the season when rooms go the quickest. Most of the Hampton hotels are chain brand establishments, and since there are plenty of discount accommodations on hand, you don't have to break the bank on a Hampton beach vacation.
