Beaches in North Myrtle Beach are extremely popular, highlighted by fishing, diving, and other water-based activities, endless family-friendly attractions, plentiful festivals, and great nightlife. Golf and spa vacations, amusement parks, horseback riding, dinner theaters and more are part of a large range of things to do in North Myrtle Beach and nearby. Over nine long miles, five of the best beaches in South Carolina lay between waterfront condos, hotels, and beach homes and the Atlantic, creating the perfect transition from land to water.
Cherry Grove is lauded as a relaxed, family-friendly beach within prime conditions for South Carolina fishing. Everyone loves Cherry Grove Pier, a local spot built in the 1950s. Over the years, harsh weather has meant many updates creating a longer, sturdier, and better-equipped facility. With a tackle and bait shop and many equipment rentals and boat charters, the pier is the center focus of Cherry Grove. The wide beach is ideal for many oceanfront activities like sea kayaking, swimming, sunbathing, beach games, and even cycling. Off the coast there are several wrecks and reefs to explore while scuba diving. Most appealing to kids is pirate themed mini golf, the Alligator Farm, and the Children’s Museum.
Windy Hill Beach
Like other beaches in North Myrtle Beach, Windy Hill Beach is a great place to find affordable lodging, especially within fully equipped, high-rise condos and hotels. The resort area of Windy Hill Beach is defined by these high-rise rentals, and is especially loved by couples of all ages, preferring the quieter backdrop than other nearby beaches in Myrtle Beach, for instance, that are more popular with families. Barefoot Landing on the Intracoastal Waterway, a dining, shopping and entertainment center, is only a short drive away. It is home to an array of shops and some of the best restaurants in North Myrtle.
Beaches in North Myrtle Beach include Crescent Beach, tied seamlessly to Atlantic Beach, and with an air of genuine quiet. It’s tucked in between Ocean Drive Beach to the north and Windy Hill Beach farther south past Atlantic Beach. Crescent Beach is yet another fine location to rent a condo, and there are thousands of them built neatly into high-rise buildings on the coast. Things to do include shopping and dining, touring attractions, and fun on the beach such as parasailing, windsurfing, jet-skiing, and swimming.
Atlantic Beach is between North Myrtle Beach and Briarcliff Acres. Inaugurated in 1934, the historic seaside town offered respite to segregated African Americans. The beach is very wide with a white-sand beach and gentle surf. Access is via wide sandy paths meandering through scenic dunes leading to the ocean. Atlantic Beach is a short jaunt south of Crescent Beach, the first of four communities composing North Myrtle Beach.
Ocean Drive Beach
Ocean Drive Beach & Golf Resort is certainly the defining resort hotel on Ocean Drive Beach. On main street, revitalization efforts are noticeable, with many charming shops and restaurants along with popular dance spots featuring evening tributes to The Shag, a popular dance born in North Myrtle Beach. Spacious beachfront lots with million-dollar estates, luxury condos, and rental apartments line the beach.
