Seaside

Seaside Oregon is nestled along the Pacific Ocean—a ribbon of beaches runs for three miles, separating the town from the sea, and a wooden promenade runs much of the length of the beach. The Seaside OR promenade is a gathering place, walkway, and pleasant place to spend some time.

When the weather is warm, the beaches of Seaside OR attract a lot of attention. Once you step off the promenade, you won’t find any cleverly named beaches, but you will find some amazing scenery. While the water is pretty chilly any time of year, the beaches are fantastic places to feel the sand beneath your toes, watch the tides, and search for seashells. Sand dollars are especially plentiful along the shore. The wind and waves mean Seaside has some of the best surfing in all of Oregon.

On the promenade, you will have many choices of how to explore, including walking, skating, biking, or taking a surrey ride. At the center of The Prom, as the locals call it, a large turnaround is home to statue of explorers Lewis and Clark and their faithful traveling companion, a big Newfoundland dog. In the summertime, locals don costumes and re-create the explorers’ time along the beaches of the future Seaside Oregon, where they stopped to get salt from the seawater. Also nearby is the Seaside Aquarium, a long-time favorite home to some truly amazing animals.

While there’s no denying that The Prom is the center of the Seaside universe, it’s not the only thing to do. Within a quick drive of Seaside, there are rivers to paddle, forests to hike through, and birds to spot. If you’re looking to relax, a ride on the carousel or flying a kite on the beach could fit the bill. Others enjoy the views of the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse or the first Saturday Art Walk. Seaside is beginning to attract the attention of the foodie set; many of its restaurants serve locally sourced items, like berries and fresh seafood, along with craft beers and Oregon wines.
