Nags Head

Nags Head is a popular North Carolina vacation destination. Located along the coast just north of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, it is known for its wonderful beaches. It is also known for its excellent fishing, and as you might expect in an East Coast beach town, there are various amusement areas near the sea that feature things such as go carts and miniature golf courses. You'll also find the East Coast's largest sand dune in Nags Head, and the area around it affords some good biking, hiking, and hang gliding opportunities.

Nags Head is a popular travel base for people who wish to visit the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. This preserve offers mile after mile of pristine beaches, and among the manmade attractions is the tallest lighthouse on the eastern seaboard. You don't have to venture into the national seashore area to enjoy good beaches, however. In Nags Head proper, the main ocean beach is quite extensive and is good for swimming and sunbathing. Many visitors also engage in a variety of water sports activities, with the beaches on the sound side being especially ideal for nonmotorized water sports such as kayaking.

If you want to do some fishing while visiting the beach in Nags Head, there are three piers from which you can cast your lines. These piers are the Outer Banks Pier, Nags Head Pier, and Jennette's Pier, which was reconstructed after Hurricane Isabel wiped it out. Snorkeling and surfing are just two more activities that you can consider enjoying on a Nags Head vacation, and as is true of most other Outer Banks vacation locations, this can be a fantastic destination for weddings. Whatever you have in mind for your visit, finding a good place to stay won't be hard, as there are vacation rentals and hotels to fit a wide range of tastes and budgets.
