Ocean City is located off the Atlantic on a barrier island in Maryland bordered by Isle of Wight Bay and Assawoman Bay. Delaware’s popular Fenwick Island is part of the island’s north end, separated by the state line. This popular getaway is for both short and long breaks, with activities like deep-sea fishing, windsurfing, and golf. The Ocean City Maryland beach is ideal for family vacations and has a lively boardwalk. Packed with amusement parks, public parks, and many things to do for all ages, the seaside spot is filled with dozens of dining and accommodation options both on the boardwalk and off.
Ten miles of golden sand stretches along the coast of Ocean City, a mere half-mile wide. The area immediate to the ocean is filled with beach chairs, umbrellas, and people kicking up the sand during the summer. Other things to do include a three-mile boardwalk, shopping, restaurants, and entertainment venues.
Fishing is a popular pastime, and with dozens of public piers scattered throughout Ocean City Maryland, reeling in the Big One isn’t a pipedream. At the island’s southernmost area, both Oceanic Pier (the only spot allowing fishing without a license) and Ocean City Inlet pier are open for fishing for trout, sniper, and bluefish. Fishing directly off Ocean City Beach is permitted before 10:00 a.m. and after about 5:00 p.m. All-day off-season fishing is allowed during fall through early spring.
Attractions rides, and shows are open at Jolly Roger Amusement Park while more rides, games, and entertainment are at the Ocean City Pier. The 1891 Life-Saving Station is the star attraction at the Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum on the boardwalk, which is also the best place to arrange skydiving adventures or rent roller blades, bicycles, or watersport equipment. Nearby, Casino at Ocean Downs provides exciting nightlife just outside of Ocean City. With a broad range of hotels built along the boardwalk, it’s easy to be close to the beach with all kinds of activities and adventures at hand.
