Savannah

Savannah
Savannah, Georgia is one of the most beautiful cities in the south, filled with hundreds of historic and modern attractions. A significant seaport on the Atlantic dating back to inauguration in 1733, Savannah places great emphases on its rich history. Millions of tourists explore marvelous architecture and rich history at sites all over the city. Within the city and greater area, there are almost two dozen distinct neighborhoods, each attractive for their distinguishing features.

The Historic District houses the oldest homes ideal for walking tours. The adjacent Victorian District is the first area to expand residentially, and Ardsley Park furthers this expansion as the first city suburb. The Savannah islands have long been a place for both residents and visitors to find relaxing landscapes filled with things to do on the waterfront.

Tybee, Wilmington, Talahi, Oatland, and Whitemarsh islands are the Eastern Islands. Most are residential with some opportunity for tourist lodging. Dutch Island, Skidaway Island, and Isle of Hope are more residential areas. Skidaway Island State Park is less than a half-hour from downtown, offering large campsites and several amenities.

River Street is Savannah’s waterfront promenade, port and main point of interest. Nearby attractions include Mercer Williams House Museum, City Market, and Colonial Park Cemetery. The Old Tybee Scenic Railroad, 30-acre Forsyth Park, and dozens of other historic sites, including numerous plantations, are more top attractions.

Tybee Island and Little Tybee Island are home to Savannah’s best beaches. Almost twenty miles east of Savannah, Tybee Island is an oceanfront haven and Savannah’s most prominent beach, boasting five miles of white sand. Adjacent Little Tybee Island is ideal for nature-lovers. Visitors willing to travel farther might consider an overnight trip to St Simons Island, Sea island, or Jekyll Island, about a five hour drive from Savannah, to enjoy more pristine Georgia beaches.
