Pacific Beach
No trip to San Diego would be complete without getting out of the city and soaking up some of the beach culture. One of the best places to experience this vibe is Pacific Beach San Diego. Known for its three mile boardwalk and fun beach bars, this beach is just as entertaining as it is relaxing. Many young people and college students are drawn to Pacific Beach CA for its reputation of beautiful sunbathers and some nightlife too. If you’re more into eye candy and taking a stroll on the boardwalk than working on your tan, this might be the best of the Southern California beaches for you.

Pacific Beach San Diego is divided into different areas. Surfing enthusiasts have heard legends about Tourmaline Surfing Park, a surfing-only beach that is fun to visit whether you want to surf or simply watch others. Beyond surfing, other activities here include windsurfing and kiteboarding. There is also a small picnic area if you want to bring along a lunch and watch the local talent. The next area is called North Pacific Beach. Visitors come here who want to be near the action of Pacific Beach, but are looking for a more relaxing environment. Families are drawn to this quiet area, and they can feel safe with lifeguards on duty.

The main area of Pacific Beach CA stretches from Pacific Beach Drive to the Crystal Pier. This is where the action is concentrated. Whether you’re looking for bike rentals or busy bars, you will find it here. If you’re looking for a quiet place to read a book for the day, you’re in the wrong place. Pacific Beach is known more as a party beach, and visitors can expect a lively atmosphere, especially on the weekends. At Pacific Beach there are areas designated for surfing and swimming, but locals know that surfing here is mediocre. The boardwalk is full of shopping, dining, and bars for those types of travelers that need constant stimulation.

One problem with visiting Pacific Beach San Diego is parking. You will want to arrive early to avoid the nightmarish parking conditions that can occur in the afternoons. Unlike other beaches in Southern California, alcohol is allowed on the beach between the hours of noon and 8pm. While the beach bars definitely have their appeal, many young people choose to bring their own coolers of ice cold beer instead. For visitors who plan on sipping on beers all day long, there are many convenient bathrooms in Pacific Beach. Many locals would say that Pacific Beach perfectly delivers the laid-back vibe of Southern California.

A trip to Pacific Beach CA might whet your appetite for more San Diego beaches. One of the best options is Coronado Beach, a spot that is constantly rated one of the best beaches in the country. Another option is Mission Beach, where you can find great surfing and nightlife in addition to that golden California sunshine. Beyond San Diego, Southern California is full of beach options. To get a full perspective of the Southern California lifestyle, venture beyond San Diego to the shores of Santa Barbara, Malibu, Santa Monica, Venice Beach, and Laguna Beach.
