Minorca

Minorca Spain
Minorca is one of the Balearic Islands of Spain. Its name is derived from the fact that it is smaller than nearby Majorca, also referred to as Mallorca. It is a wonderful Mediterranean retreat where tourists from around the world escape for rest and relaxation. There are virtually unlimited activities on and around the beach, not the least of which are diving and snorkeling, fishing, sailing, and so much more. Minorca is known for its festive summer crowds who celebrate traditional customs along with island residents. Main Street is closed during these times for bonfires, music, dancing, and general festivities.

The biggest appeal of Minorca, and the rest of the Balearic Islands for that matter, is the wide variety of beaches. There are pristine, unspoiled beaches peppered all over this tiny island in the heart of the Spanish Mediterranean. Some of them, especially the ones associated with resorts and luxury hotels, offer public facilities, lifeguards, and equipment rentals. Still more afford the possibility of escaping to a remote stretch of picturesque coastline where you can enjoy the perfect sun and surf and relative privacy. Top beaches include Cala en Porter, Playa Punta Prima, and Playa de Binibeca. Ferries are available for trips to the neighboring islands or to the mainland. Minorca Spain is a top international tourist attraction for very good reason.

The dining also must be noted in any explanation of the highlights of Minorca. The cuisine is dominated by Mediterranean fare. One of the best parts of visiting the island is having the chance to savor the amazing food, especially the fresh seafood. There are a variety of guest accommodations on the island, including resorts, hotels, and an array of vacation rentals.
