The best beaches in the world
Spain is located in the southwestern portion of Europe along the Iberian Peninsula. It has been a unified country (properly the Kingdom of Spain) since the fifteenth century. It is the second largest member country of the European Union in Western Europe, after France. The country has a long and rich history that has been turbulent in past centuries, due in large part to the geographical vulnerabilities to invading forces by sea. Spain is a popular vacation destination for people from around the globe. Visitors flock in great numbers to enjoy the centuries-old art and culture as well as fantastic Spain beaches, memorable dining and shopping, and vibrant nightlife and entertainment.
Spain is bounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the south and east, which is also where the Spanish autonomous communities of the Balearic Islands are located. These include the beautiful Ibiza beaches, Formentera, Minorca, and Mallorca. Spain is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean and Portugal to the west and mainland France to the north. The beaches along the scenic Costa del Sol in places like Marbella, Malaga, and Alicante are extremely popular tourist destinations where people enjoy long, white sand beaches, luxury resorts, authentic Mediterranean dining, and endless beach sports and activities.
Major cities like Barcelona and Madrid offer amazing opportunities for art and culture, as do many other smaller destinations throughout the country. It just happens that these global cities contain some of the most impressive museums, galleries, and historic attractions in southwestern Europe. When you take a vacation to Spain, you can be sure that you will have your fill of art, culture, entertainment, great food, and beautiful beaches.
