French Riviera

French Riviera
Escaping to the French Riviera can be a wonderful thing any time of year, though the summers see the most visitors. This has a lot to do with the area's beaches. You can find the French Riviera, or the Cote d'Azure as it is referred to in France, on the country's southeast coast. The area beaches open onto the open waters of the Mediterranean Sea, and as far as what they offer, variety is the name of the game.

Some of the French Riviera beaches, such as those that are found in and around the area's largest city of Nice, are pebble beaches; the Nice France pictures show a more unique beach than the more traditional sandy beaches, much like the ones that can be found in and around the chic summer hot spot of St Tropez. As for the best beaches overall, that depends what you have in mind. Some, such as the infamous Plage de Tahiti in St Tropez, are known for being hedonistic and tolerant of nudity, for example, and if you are trying to spot famous personalities, you might try Monte Carlo Beach on the Monaco border.

Cannes is another French Riviera hot spot. The real sand beach in Cannes is quite extensive and is actually divided into a bunch of sub-beaches. Sun beds sit on the white sands, and parasols provide shade on sunny days. Of the various sub-beaches in Cannes, Waikiki Beach and Plages Gazagnaire are two of the best.

Numerous hotels can be found on or near the sand in the French Riviera, and there are plenty of interesting things to do when you aren't relaxing on one of the beaches. Sailing is another popular pursuit, and there are numerous historic landmarks that are worth taking in. This region has something for everyone when it comes down to it, which is why it is one of the most popular vacation destinations in all of Europe.
