Playa Hermosa would look right at home on a tropical island, but it’s actually located along Costa Rica’s Pacific coast. This beach has all the building blocks of paradise—a long stretch of golden sand, clear blue waters, and skies that seem to go on forever—all surrounded by towering palm trees. Actually, there are two Hermosa beaches in Costa Rica, and both fit this description, as they’re among the best Costa Rican beaches. Playa Hermosa Costa Rica could mean one on the northwest coast or the other one on the north coast.

The first Hermosa Beach Coasta Rica is located in Guanacaste in the northwest of the country. The other is closer to San Jose, right by Jaco Beach in the Puntarenas Province. Both offer a wide range of fun in the sun and year-round fantastic weather. Whether you visit just one or both—you’ll be treated to amazing views and more adventure than is found on the mainland.

Playa Hermosa in Guanacaste is a bit more popular for visitors, and is nestled along the northwest coast, four or five hours from San Jose. Some of the best resorts in Central America can be found along the northwest coast, and Playa Hermosa Costa Rica is no exception. The beach and its resorts are just twenty minutes from the airport in Liberia. Well-maintained and especially clean, Hermosa Beach is a favorite beach and for good reason. It has been awarded the Blue Flag designation, signaling its quality and safety.

Nearly a mile long, the gray sands of Hermosa Beach area surrounded by volcanic rocks and a tropical forest as well as the blue waters of the Pacific. It’s no wonder that Playa Hermosa means beautiful beach in Spanish. Laid-back and rarely crowded, Hermosa Beach Costa Rica is a great place for sunbathing and relaxing. Local outfitters can equip you with all that’s needed for for along the beach, including kayaks, jet skis, and waterbikes. Windsurfing is another popular activity here, as are catamaran excursions and fishing charters.

While this beach is popular, that doesn’t mean it’s crowded or overrun. You’ll find plenty of places to enjoy your time along the Pacific, especially if you’re looking to relax. There will be plenty of room to stretch out a blanket or pull up a beach chair. The warm sun overhead should will feel great when you’re reading a novel or taking a nap.
