Costa Rica Beach hotels are found in both very undeveloped areas tucked into lush jungle locales near the rainforest and waterfalls, and also near beaches that have become very developed with access to shops, dining, and nightlife. Whether you seek a completely secluded getaway or a social retreat, Costa Rica beach hotels offer it all, and in price ranges that vary from ultra-cheap to very expensive.
Tamarindo Beach Hotels
Tamarindo Beach in Guanacaste is on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. The location is exceptionally beautiful and quiet with many Tamarindo Beach hotels available. The beach is on a bay created by Cabo Velas, a cape near Playa Grande. Barcelo Langosta Beach Hotel features modern, clean design with contemporary elements. The outdoor landscape is spread out with highlights such as an immense pool and a palm-dotted lounging area. The setting is ideal for families (plenty of kids’ programs to go around) as well as weddings and romantic escapes.
If you seek luxury, Los Altos De Eros Luxury Inn & Spa is one of the most lavish hotels in Costa Rica, defined by a stunning 27-acre property, and easy access to the country’s best activities. Five-star cuisine, Spa de Eros, and plentiful space for all guests are additional highlights.
Montezuma Beach Hotels
Montezuma is on the south side of the Nicoya Peninsula, fronted by lush, jungle landscape and beach. The area is rich in culture and history and features several secluded beaches where waterfall hiking is possible. The area is best known for smaller hotels and upscale bungalows. El Jardin is in the center of Montezuma and on a hilltop overlooking the ocean. Accommodations include bungalows and two villas spread out amid tropical surroundings and complete with Wi-Fi, fridges, private baths, and orthopedic beds. A full range of excursions includes deep-sea fishing, horseback riding, and trips to Tortuga Island.
An additional option here is Anamaya Yoga Resort, which offers yoga training, surf retreats, a full spa, and several classes and workshops. The resort offers a host of adventure packages to explore the surrounding rainforest.
Conchal Beach Hotels
Minutes south of Brasilito on the north Pacific Coast is Conchal, characterized by large Costa Rica resorts, most notably Paradisus, but also extravagant Westin Resort & Spa (pictured above). Paradisus Playa Conchal is one of the best Costa Rica beach hotels for golf vacations. The all-suite, all inclusive resort offers everything a large, modern resort would, with the benefit of Garra de Leon onsite, a Robert Trent Jones designed world-class golf course. Four bars, five restaurants, and impressive meeting facilities are part available.
Another option, Conchal Hotel is a boutique property with nine deluxe rooms. Set on Costa Rica’s Gold Coast, the service here as good as the coastal name implies. Personalized, private, and stunning, the experience lends itself to reveling in service fit for royalty.
Playa Grande Beach Hotels
Playa Grande comprises a small part of Marino Las Baulas National Park on the coast of Guanacaste and is famous for protecting seasonal nesting turtles. This means no beachfront Costa Rica resorts, but many hotels still offer quick route to the sand. Hotel Las Tortugas is the only hotel on the beach. It escaped laws because of construction pre-dating the national park – its owner is a man who was key in developing the park early on. The hotel offers access to this prime surfing destination where extended stays are possible via the hotel’s private hilltop apartments. Only two minutes from the beach is Hotel Cantarana, a small, avant-garde hotel featuring guest suites tucked in cultivated gardens near an outdoor pool and alfresco restaurant.
