The best beaches in the world
The island country of St Lucia is among the most mountainous islands in the Caribbean. It is also where you will find some of the region's most enticing beaches and largely unspoiled natural landscapes, which is a big reason why tourism is popular here. Numerous resort hotels, the majority of which are upscale and offer all inclusive packages, can be found either on the sand or close to it, often in the main towns of Castries and Soufriere. There is no shortage of fun things to do on the side when it comes time to take a break from the beach life.
St Lucia has a land area of around 240 square miles and is located between the other Caribbean islands of Saint Vincent and Martinique. Volcanic in nature, the island is home to several black-sand beaches, though both white-sand and beige-sand beaches are also in good supply. The very best beaches in St Lucia are on the calmer western side. The eastern end, being more windy and having more surf, generally isn't the best for swimming or snorkeling. Some St Lucia visitors make it a point to venture over to the eastern side, however, as the windsurfing is usually pretty good. Since the eastern St Lucia beaches are typically less crowded than those that are found on the west side, they can also be ideal for relaxed sunbathing experiences.
When St Lucia visitors aren't spending time at top beaches such as Anse Chastanet and Reduit Beach, they can indulge in any number of side activities. Hiking through a tropical rainforest is just one activity option, and a ride on the Rainforest Aerial Tram can also prove rewarding. Other options for things to do on the side include visiting the island's drive-in volcano, taking in the Diamond Botanical Gardens, playing a round of golf, and engaging in some deep sea fishing. Of course, the St Lucia beaches are the main attraction, though it's good to know that there are plenty of other ways to keep busy during a St Lucia escape.
