The best beaches in the world
Fajardo is the main recreational boating hub in Puerto Rico, and this has a lot do with its numerous marinas and its reef-protected waters. Ample trade winds also lend to the sailing bliss in this town on the northeast coast, and there are scores of small islands just offshore that can be visited by boat. Excellent boating isn't the only reason to visit Fajardo Puerto Rico. This is also a great beach vacation destination.
The main public beach in town is known as Playa Seven Seas, and it can be found on the Las Cabezas peninsula. The sheltered nature of Playa Seven Seas makes is a good snorkeling spot, though even better snorkeling can be had at Playa Escondido. Known as Hidden Beach in English, Playa Escondido is about a half mile from Playa Seven Seas and can be reached via a couple walking paths. Coral reefs are right offshore at Playa Escondido.
Along the walking paths that lead out from Playa Seven Seas, you will eventually come to El Convento Beach. A most attractive strip of sand, this undeveloped beach stretches for miles between Fajardo and the nearby municipality of Luquillo. The water is almost always calm and clear, and you might be interested to know that it is one of the main turtle nesting beaches in the country.
No beach vacation in Fajardo Puerto Rico would be complete without a trip to one of the offshore islands. Various operators offer day trips that embark from the town's marinas, and often lunch is included. Take a cruise out to the islands for some beach time, and you will also likely have the chance to do some snorkeling. Comfortable yachts with great amenities are used for the day sailing trips in Fajardo, and among the islands that you can visit are Palomino and the smaller Palominito. Icacos is another, and it is also possible to venture out to Vieques and Culebra, which are Puerto Rican island municipalities that have little trouble satisfying even the most critical beach enthusiast.
