The best beaches in the world
Cabo Rojo, or Red Cape, as it translates to English, is an area in the southwest corner of Puerto Rico that is best known for its splendid beaches. Some have even gone as far as to name the Cabo Rojo beaches the most beautiful on the island, and the relatively uncrowded nature of these strips of sand only helps to accentuate their appeal. Cliffs serve as scenic backdrops at many of the area beaches, and thanks to the western location of Cabo Rojo, the sunsets are usually amazing.
The wonderful beaches in southwestern Puerto Rico extend from Cabo Rojo all the way over to the Ponce area. These beaches offer bright white sands and rich turquoise waters, much as you would expect in the Caribbean, and the water clarity lends itself well to snorkeling. From the Guanica area to Boqueron Beach, some especially good snorkeling can be enjoyed, thanks to the reefs and colorful marine life found just offshore.
Boqueron Beach might just be the most scenic beach in Cabo Rojo when it comes down to it. Curving around a bay, it features white sand and swaying palms, not to mention great views of the town of Boqueron. Swimming and snorkeling are very popular pursuits. Numerous facilities are available at Boqueron Beach, including barbecue pits, showers, and restrooms. Also great for swimming and snorkeling are the Guanica beaches of Cana Gorda and Playa Santa. Throughout the year, the water on these Cabo Rojo beaches is calm and warm. Also worth highlighting is the fact that backing the white sand on these two beaches are scenic hills, not high-rise resorts.
