Best Puerto Rico BeachesPuerto Rico beaches offer visitors plenty of Caribbean charm and atmosphere. Great surf, soft sand, and plenty of top-rated scenery are all attributes of the beaches on this small, Caribbean island. From world-class surfing to a range of watersports to excellent swimming conditions, the best beaches in Puerto Rico have it all.

Boqueron Beach

Situated in Puerto Rico’s popular Cabo Rojo region, Boqueron Beach is one of the top ten island beaches. Turquoise water flanking a mile of white sand, good snorkeling and diving pursuits, and plenty of amenities make this a well-loved weekend haunt.

Crashboat Beach

Famous for world class surfing conditions, surfers are just what you’ll find at Crashboat Beach in Aguadilla on the northwest coast. The sandy front is ideal for relaxing swimming when the surf is calm.

Playa de Ponce

Set on the southern shore in the city limits of Ponce, Playa de Ponce features a wonderful boardwalk and several historic landmarks displaying rich colonial history and interesting architecture. Ponce Beach isn’t as popular for swimming, but it is a great spot to enjoy restaurants and a perfect sea view.

Cana Gorda

House boats and summer rentals are popular sights along Cana Gorda. This public beach also offers plenty of excellent, nearby hiking trails. There are coves and bays to explore, many adventurous activities, and great bird watching. The white-sand beach is beautiful and swimming and snorkeling are both excellent.

Luquillo Beach

Luquillo Beach lies on the northeast shore just 30 miles from San Juan. It is easily one of the best beaches in Puerto Rico. Shaped like a half-moon and lined by picturesque coconut palms, Luquillo offers visitors a gentle surf ideal for both body surfing and snorkeling as well as swimming.

Domes Beach

Domes Beach, which is one of the famous Rincon Puerto Rico beaches, is a terrific place to surf, kite surf, body board, and wind surf. Primarily it is a surfer’s beach so it’s common to see hundreds of spectators lining the coast watching the surfers out on the water. As one of the best Puerto Rico beaches for surfing, you can bet the weekends bring in the crowds.

Esperanza Beach

Located on the beautiful island of Vieques, Esperanza Beach is the biggest and best beach the island has. It is down the coast from smaller Puerto Rico beaches like Sun Bay Beach and Navio Beach. There is a vibrant community in the adjacent town and a popular seaside promenade to enjoy, but the true appeal lies in the fine sand beach where swimming and snorkeling are favorite activities.

Seven Seas Beach

Fajardo’s Seven Seas Beach offers the best of everything, beautiful, clear water, on-duty lifeguards, plenty of facilities, and onsite parking. High water quality is evident by the Blue Flag status. The beach is crescent-shaped, has fine white sand, and is fringed by shady palms. A ways from the beach is a small coral reef ideal for shore diving and snorkeling.

Sun Bay Beach

Also on lovely Vieques island, Sun Bay Beach is small, quiet, and crowd-free and one of the best Puerto Rico beaches for its private feel. Clear sea water, verdant greenery, towering palm trees, and top-notch facilities make this one of the best beaches in Puerto Rico, especially for families.

Playa del Condada

West of San Juan’s Ocean Park Beach and east of the city’s old quarter, Playa del Condada is wide and long and backed by a long chain of apartment buildings and San Juan hotels. There are plenty of places to rent chairs, many rental shops offering watersport rentals, and places to grab a bite or a drink. Head to the west side of the Plaza Condada for the most protected each area and best swimming spot.
