Ocho Rios Beaches

Ocho Rios Beaches
Ocho Rios beaches are the top highlights in this popular tourist destination on the northern coast of Jamaica. Ocho Rios itself is located in the parish of Saint Ann. It was at one time a sleepy fishing village, but has turned into one of the most alluring tourist spots in the country, along with Montego Bay, Negril, and Port Antonio, and it’s home to some of the loveliest Jamaican beaches. It is one of the most oft frequented ports of call in Jamaica and offers visitors the opportunity to take part in many activities, including scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, and much more. The white-sand beaches and crystal-blue waters accentuate the beautiful luxury hotels and resorts.

Dunn’s River Beach

This may just be the most visually stunning beach in Ocho Rios Jamaica, if not the entire country. This is not so hard to believe when you find out that it is strategically placed underneath the 600-foot waterfall at Dunn’s River. There are always crowds here, but it is fun and relaxing. You can enjoy swimming and sunbathing while staying cool from the mist of the towering falls. This is as close to a tropical paradise that it gets anywhere in Jamaica. This is a somewhat secluded beach that is nonetheless busy with visitors because of the falls. There are guards on duty during the busier times of the year. Restaurants and bars are nearby.

Puerto Seco Beach

This is a great place to visit if you are looking to have a truly authentic Jamaican beach experience. This beach, located near Columbus Park, is frequented by both tourists and residents and often features reggae concerts and always awesome jerk chicken and other Caribbean delights.

Dolphin Cove

It is pricey to get into this beach, but the experience is well worth the fee. This beach is perfect for sunbathing and swimming, offering great sand and surf, but what is unique is the ability to swim with the dolphins. You will want to be sure to make advance reservations for this highly popular attraction in Ocho Rios. Swimming with these trained bottlenose dolphins really makes for an unforgettable experience for adults and kids alike. There are lifeguards on duty, concessions, and facilities for changing and using the restroom.

Mallards Beach

Mallards Beach is located along the coast in the central portion of Ocho Rios. This beach is lined with luxury hotels and resorts and is usually crowded with cruise ship passengers and patrons of the local accommodations. It is, however, a fantastic place to enjoy fun beach parties and meet cool new people on your vacation. There is no shortage of amazing scenery, warm water, and powdery white sand as well. Lifeguards are always on duty and there are plenty of public facilities, as well as places to eat, drink, and see entertainment like live reggae bands.

James Bond Beach

James Bond Beach is located at the eastern end of Ocho Rios. It is so named because of its close proximity to Ian Fleming’s home (the writer of the James Bond series). There are often reggae concerts and beach parties on this beautiful beach, so be sure to inquire with your hotel concierge staff as to the local events calendar.

Turtle Beach

An alternative to busy tourist beaches, this stretch of gorgeous white sand is more often frequented by locals. There is plenty of space to enjoy sunbathing, swimming, and relaxing in the sun. It is located at the Renaissance Jamaica Grande in Ocho Rios.
