Negril

Negril is a popular Jamaica vacation destination. Visitors started flocking to this beach town on the western edge of the island back in the 1960s. In more recent decades, mega resorts have joined the scene, though a certain amount of hippie essence pervades. Parts of the local beaches are still reserved for nude sunbathing, and you can always find more modest areas too.

Negril isn't a large beach vacation destination. That being said, it has a relatively spread-out nature. There are actually two sides to the town, and they offer different atmospheres. Basically, the east side is more upscale and formal, while the west side is more known for its earthy feel and its cheaper accommodations. As for the main beach in Negril, it is beautiful Seven Mile Beach.

White sands meet turquoise waters at Seven Mile Beach where the water is usually calm. In fact, Seven Mile Beach opens onto a natural lagoon, and it is ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Swaying palms add to the beauty of the overall scene at Seven Mile Beach, as do sea grapes, and while there are hotels along the sand.

Topless bathing is very common along Seven Mile Beach, and there are areas that allow total nudity. Some resorts also allow nudity, and they include Hedonism II and Grand Lido. If you prefer a scene that is devoid of nude bodies, peddlers, and loud music, then Long Bay Beach Park is a better fit. Found on the northern end of Negril, this park offers a beach that is mostly undeveloped. No hotels line it and the facilities are limited to picnic tables and changing rooms. Rarely, if ever crowded, the beach at Long Bay Beach Park has plenty of appeal.

Watersports equipment is easy to rent at the beaches in Negril. Boats are nearby to take visitors out on snorkeling adventures, which is something that is well worth considering, and you can also indulge in some banana boating, some water skiing, and some parasailing if you so desire.
