Doctor’s Cave Beach is one of the most popular tourist spots in Montego Bay and is frequently visited by people on cruise excursions. The Doctor’s Cave Beach Club dominates this relatively broad stretch of powdery white sand and shimmering blue water. Doctor’s Cave in Jamaica earned its name when Dr. Alexander James McCatty donated a beach property that was accessed via a cave, to the community of Montego Bay. He had used it to allow friends to vacation and bathe in the exceptionally warm waters. The cave itself was destroyed in a hurricane, but the name of the beach stuck.
Members of the Doctor’s Cave Beach Club have access to the beach, as well as the public for a fee. The Montego Bay beaches have gained in popularity as a tourist destination in Jamaica, together with Ocho Rios and Port Antonio, and the Doctor’s Cave Beach area is a favorite for visitors of this area because of the wide selection of beach related sports and activities, the variety of restaurants and bars, and the shopping and recreation.
Doctor’s Cave Beach is fully patrolled and guarded the qualified lifeguards that are associated with the beach club. You can rent beach chairs and umbrellas, scuba and snorkeling gear, as well as kayaks and other such things. You will also find several laid back eateries where you can enjoy local Caribbean favorites and lots of amazing seafood. Doctor’s Cave is located just about one mile of the central part of Montego Bay. There are also plenty of other accommodations in Montego Bay and you can always pay the nominal fee to just visit Doctor’s Cave for the day. It is well worth it to pay for a boat ride to the site of the old cave.
