Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo is the capital city of the Dominican Republic. It is a city of around 3 million people located on the southern coast of the country. Santo Domingo is within close range of some of the top beaches to the south, meaning that many people fly through Santo Domingo on the way to their final destination, whether that is a resort in Juan Dolio, La Caleta, Boca Chica, or any of the other alluring beach resort destinations in the Dominican Republic.

You will have to drive a little bit out of the way to get to the beaches, but not far. This isn’t a problem anyway in the Dominican Republic, as many of the luxury hotels and resorts provide complimentary transportation to and from the beach as well as a variety of attractions around the city. Most people who visit Santo Domingo from the United States and Canada tend to do so as part of their trip to a resort in one of the outlying areas. The Dominican Republic is largely a resort destination, and many of the large-scale resorts and hotels offer amenities and accommodations that give people the opportunity to stay in and enjoy dining, entertainment, a wide range of activities and much more.

Boca Chica is perhaps the most popular, as well as the closest major beach to Santo Domingo. It is an easy fifteen-minute drive to get to this picturesque beach that features crystal-clear blue water that is so shallow that you can wade out to your waist for over 100 yards. You also do not have to worry about not being able to find tons of authentic restaurants, shopping outlets, clubs, and bars, when you are within close range of the capital city of Santo Domingo.
