Few cities are as associated with beach pleasures as Rio de Janeiro. Here, your trip will be just as full of sun and surf as it will be of cuisine and culture. When planning Rio de Janeiro vacations, it is best to keep in mind the fact that beaches here in this part of Brazil […]
Brazil beach vacations give you the ultimate in choices—with what seems to be thousands of beaches, Brazil is a nation that lives for the sand and sun. From the lively fun at Ipanema and Copacabana Beach to more secluded beaches far from the tourist crowd, Brazil beaches have it all. White sand, palm fronds gently waving in the breeze, bikini-clad beauties (of both genders!), and plenty of good food and drink make Brazil beach vacations one of the most quintessential of beach experiences.
Close to the metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro you'll find iconic Ipanema Beach, a public beach packed full of locals looking for a day in the sun. The sand is golden and soft, and beach vendors wander to and fro, bringing food and drinks right to your feet. Join a game of pick-up soccer or beach volleyball, and catch a wave on a surfboard or boogie board.
Brazil beach vacations don't have to be crowded, however. In fact, with thousands of miles of coastline, chances are good that you can find a secluded stretch of sand. The volcanic islands at Fernando de Noronha have dozens of pristine sandy beaches, and with restricted numbers of tourists, you can see plenty of wildlife: turtles, sharks, and hundreds of colorful fish. Praia do Toque has nine miles of powdery soft sand and a warm lagoon, and is close to a manatee refuge. Caraiva, Bahia is one of those beaches that haven’t yet been discovered by global tourism—you'll want to get to this quiet retreat before the rest of the world finds it.
While Brazil has hundreds of beaches along its coastline, don't forget the beaches along the Amazon River as well!
